Burton Retail History.

Burton was established by Montague Burton in 1903 initially being called The Cross-Tailoring Company. When it was listed on the london stock exchange in 1929 it had grown to over 400 shops, factories and mills. When in 1952 the founder died it was the worlds largest tailor with 616 stores. In1997 Burton group changed its name to Arcadia Group and in 2002 it was bought by Sir Philip Green to become the UK’s largest retail group in private hands.
