1/ The first is
that loyalty does not guarantee you the best deals as it seems that after attracting new customers car insurers seem to then
increase the premiums in the second year (sometimes substantially) even though new customers can get the same offer cheaper
online.
2/ Often buying online can lead to savings of
as much as 20% on the equivalent price over the telephone.
3/
Price comparison sites are great for getting a base price but not all companies allow their products to be shown e.g Direct
Line and others can offer better prices when you go through their own websites directly.
4/ If you are in a
high risk category e.g young driver, previously banned or drive a high performance car you might be better dealing with
one of the specialist insurance brokers who covers those areas.
5/ Play around with the excess figures
when you are getting an online quote as sometimes anomalies occur and you might find by for example that by increasing
the excess by £50 you save more than that.
6/ If you are paying monthly check whether you are paying an increased
charge as not all car insurance companies charge you extra for paying your premiums monthly.
7/ Finally be
truthful! if you have made claims etc in the last 5 years it is better to declare them as should you be involved in a
claim and have not told the truth it is likely that your insurer will not pay out.
