Play.com is based in Jersey and was started in 1998 selling DVDs for region 1 and 2, today it has grown to be the 3rd most visted retail website in the UK. Along the way play.com has expanded the products that are available on the website to include books, video games, laptops, consumer  electronics, clothes, cds, ipods, mobile phones and lots more. Today it is reckoned that play.com has over 500 staff and stocks over 8,000,000 items. On 15 January 2009, a survey published by Verdict Research found Play.com was the UK's second favourite music and video retailer, behind first place Amazon.co.uk and ahead of entertainment retailer Zavvi who came in third.
