Britannia has merged with The Co-operative Bank, part of The Co-operative Financial Services. The merger was approved by the Financial Services Authority on 24 July 2009 and became effective on 1 August 2009.

The Cooperative Bank (which includes the brands smile, Britannia and Platform) and The Cooperative Insurance  has over 8 million customers and £47.6bn in total shareholder assets.

The Group produced profits before tax, distributions and fair value amortisation of £128.1m (2.9% higher than 2009). The Co-operative Bank core tier 1 ratio was 9.6% (2009: 8.7%). The number of primary current accounts held by customers increased by 17% in 2010; primary current accounts reflect those which a customer treats as their main bank account. In addition, the number of customers switching current account  increased by 79% during 2010. The quality of the mortgage book remains high with a combined average loan to value of 41.8%.
