TJ Hughes was founded back in 1912 in the city of Liverpool. Today they have 56 shops across the UK plus a website for those who do not have access to a store or who prefer shopping online. TJ Hughes floated on the London Stock Exchange in l992 and were acquired by JJB Sports in April 2002.  In 2003 they were bought out for £56 million pounds with the backing of Silverfleet Capital. In 2011 they were named in the Sunday Times private equity backed companies with the fastest growing profits at number 98. They employ 4189 staff and made sales of over £266 million pounds in the last financial year. 

They are a discount department store that specialise in home and fashion, fragrance and cosmetics, technology & electricals. TJ Hughes offers premium brands at up to 70% discount and quality products at low prices. 

Departments include menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, fragrance, cosmetics, fashion accessories, footwear , housewares, electrical, consumer electronics, toys, home furnishings and linens and  larger stores include a restaurant.
