18.03.2011 Yorkshire Building Society today announces that it is in discussions with Norwich and Peterborough Building Society regarding the possibility of a merger. These discussions are subject to completion of full and satisfactory due diligence, which will take a number of weeks to complete, and the satisfaction of certain pre-conditions.

The Norwich and Peterborough Building Society made a profit after tax of £900,000 against £4,200,000 the year before. This figure is after a contribution to the fscs levy of £1.8 million. 

0.83% of mortgage accounts were in serious arrears.
Net margin dropped from 1.12% to 0.70%
 Retail savings exceed mortgage loans by £321 million.

The Norwich and Peterborough Building Society made a profit after tax of £4,200,000 against £16,500,000. This figure is after a contribution to the fscs levy of £5.5 million. Provisions for bad and doubtful debts was £7.3 million as against £3.6 million the year before. At the end of the year there were 28 properties that had been repossessed (8 2007)
