History of the DVD. The first dvd players were launched in Japan in November 1996 followed by the USA
in March 1997 and Europe in 1998. By June 2003 dvd rentals finally overtook video rentals and by 2006 most film studios were
only releasing new films on dvd. The first ever feature film to be launched on dvd was the movie Twister.
